Accidents happen! A simple bump or biting into something unexpected can result in what feels like a disaster. At Smile Centre, we know that dealing with a broken tooth can be scary and sometimes painful. We offer same day appointments to get you out of pain and repair damaged teeth.
If facial trauma is involved, we can also help to assess whether or not medical intervention is required.
There is nearly nothing more painful than a toothache. Sudden tooth or jaw pain can be a symptom of infection, fracture, or decay. Teeth become painful when the nerve inside the tooth is inflamed. Using state of the art x-ray and 3D scanning technology, our dentists can determine the cause of your discomfort and provide same day relief . We can prescribe medication to help with pain or infection, as well as complete any necessary treatment. Emergency treatment may include tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal, root canals, and restorations. We can also provide several sedation options for your comfort if needed.
Losing a crown or a dental filling can cause immediate sensitivity and allows your teeth to become more vulnerable to harmful bacteria. Not all emergencies are painful; this can also be an aesthetic emergency. If an anterior restoration is missing or damaged, it can negatively impact the look of your smile and your confidence. We can provide many same day treatments, including recementing a crown, custom creating a new crown or temporary crown if needed, and permanent or temporary fillings as required.
An untreated dental infection can spread very quickly, and can lead to more serious oral and overall health risks. A dental abscess is a swollen area in the mouth, often full of fluid or exudate. This type of infection can be very painful, and can come on suddenly. If you have pain, swelling, and/or a bad taste in your mouth, you may have a dental infection.
We can provide emergency care when you need it the most. Treatment of a dental infection can include draining an infected tooth or abscess, prescribing medications (antibiotics for infection, and medication for pain relief), and even root canal. Sometimes a tooth can even require extraction if it is not restorable.
A tooth being knocked out is a definite dental emergency! This type of accident is all too common, especially when playing sports without mouth protection.
Sometimes, teeth can be saved, even after being forcibly removed. The most important thing when dealing with this type of injury is time. If a tooth is knocked out, you should immediately rinse the tooth, being careful not to touch the root as much as possible. Next you either try to place the tooth back in the socket if possible. If it is not possible to do this, you can store the tooth in a glass of milk. It is imperative that you see a dentist ASAP to determine whether or not the tooth can be saved. We can often attempt to reattach the tooth and apply a splint to hold it in place for healing. If the tooth cannot be saved, we can provide you with options for tooth replacement.
A blow to the mouth or a fall can cause injury to both the teeth and the surrounding soft tissues. If you believe that there has been impact to the teeth, it is important to evaluate the area as soon as possible to see if there is any underlying damage to the roots of the teeth or the surrounding bone. We will take and x -ray and examine the injured area to determine if any dental intervention is required.
Not all dental emergencies can be prevented, but there are many things you can do to try to eliminate the possibility of an unplanned dental visit.
